Should alcohol advertisement be banned?

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has urged society to support hin in his bid to stop the advertising of alcohol beverages. It might be the right move but it's fraud with danger as the liquor industry is the largest contributor of advertising revenue for most media outlets. According to the government alcohol advertisements send a negative message and these campaigns design to increase alcohol abuse. Just because tobacco ads are banned,should alcohol ads be banned also?


Advertising increases alcohol consumption, which increase alcohol abuse right? Wrong there is no solid evidence from either scientific research or practical experience that this theory of advertising is correct. I mean there is no significantly affects consuption let alone abuse.Even though tobacco ads are banned people can still use tobacco, banning alcohol ads won't stop people from consuming alcohol. People were drinking long before the concept of advertising was even invented, banning ads will have absolutely no effect on that.

I don't see why government should interfare in the business affairs of companies in the alcohol business. The ban would cost SABC more than R542 million a year and R440 million for DSTV.This will lead to lack of sponsorship because of station may not be able to raise enough money for sponsorship. Government should just focus on creating jobs, maintanance of public infrastructure and so forth. There is no advertising promoting, crime, child abuse, alcohol abuse, drug addiction etc.

The importance of advertising


Advertising is a form of communication used to communicate with specific consumers or group. It is used to persuade, create awareness, influence and also to encourage consumers. The are many reasons why the is creativity in advertising. Advertising has invaded every aspect of our day to day dealings, our conversations, our thoughts and to a certain extent control our behaviour as customers and consumers of goods and services. Most customers do rely upon advertisement when buying or goods or choosing certain services.Though advertising does not mean selling product not mean selling of products and services but it helps in increasing sales.When general public become curious to the product, services and goods under the hands they persuade people towards these brands and make them buy better brands. Advertising can be used to create brand awareness in general public and to make business more popular within the circle of potential buyers. In short advertising does not only give a proper awareness of brands but a nice introduction of companies as well.Attracting advertising increase the demands of public which directly boost sales of the brand.

With good visual effects it will attract the target audience attention that will creates interest by establishing feelings of desireb to bring about an action to purchase. It is preferable to include the brand name as 80% of readers read no futher than the headline. In a successful business advertising play an essential and important role, nothing can be achieved without advertisements
